Join Me on My Journey in Chiayi County, Taiwan!
大家好! Hi everyone!
My name is Ona Elkins and I’m a current Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) in Chiayi County, Taiwan. I’m from the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina but I’ll be spending my next 11 months living and teaching in Taiwan. I’ll be sharing photos and journals on this page weekly and I’ll be posting daily updates on my Instagram account @Ona_In_Taiwan if you’d like to follow along:)

The story of how I became a U.S. Fulbright Scholar in Taiwan.

Daily life documentation, random thoughts, poetry and literature, and general brain dumps from my time in Taiwan.

Photos of the beautiful, the silly, and the in-between of Taiwan.

“You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting—
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.”
